Dear Fellow Monarchs:
Today, we celebrate the establishment, impact, vision, and success of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at ±¬ÁϹÏ. Since July 1, 2024, we have marked a transformative chapter in healthcare education, clinical care, and research for our campus, our community, and our Commonwealth.
This bold effort was made possible through the unwavering support of the Commonwealth of Virginia, specifically Governor Youngkin and the General Assembly, as well as a historic investment from Sentara Health, paving the way for new infrastructure, academic programs, and clinical opportunities. From enhancing education and advancing research to strengthening the clinical workforce pipeline, this milestone year has laid a powerful foundation for our students and local citizens, as well as our region and beyond.
Several landmark achievements defined the year. Generous philanthropic efforts expanded scholarship opportunities for students dedicated to serving Hampton Roads. A state-of-the-art facility designed for interdisciplinary collaboration and public-facing clinical care opened as the new home of the Ellmer College of Health Sciences. The University also earned state approval for the Joint School of Public Health, in partnership with Norfolk State University, and opened the region’s first multidisciplinary adult sickle cell program, in partnership with Sentara Health. These comprehensive efforts reflect an expanded commitment to solving public health challenges through bold and innovative approaches.
Momentum continued to build with national recognition and academic prestige for multiple health sciences programs earning top rankings. With a growing alumni base and unified mission, the University is equipping the next generation of clinicians, educators, and researchers to address urgent healthcare needs — locally and nationally.
