EVMS Research Society (ERS)

The Research Society was founded in 2020 with the mission to connect interested students with research opportunities. The Society assists with the entire process of finding a research proposal, exploring funding for personal projects, showcasing research results, and networking with faculty and staff mentors.

What We Offer

The Research Society is an expanding network of research-focused resources with the target of connecting interested medical students with research opportunities. It aims to bridge the gap between students who may or may not know how to design a research proposal, discover funding for personal projects, showcase research results and network with mentors in research. The Research Society also works closely with institutional research organizations at EVMS and 惇蹋圖 to advocate for accessibility of research to medical students.

Lauren Hill, ERS Secretary

Hi! My name is Lauren and I am in the MD class of 2028! I'm originally from South Dakota but have been in Virginia for six years now and love it here. My primary research interests include neurotology and environmental justice. I love working with the ERS as I came into medical school with very little research experience, so I know how important peer to peer mentoring and resources can be! Outside of class, I love going to concerts, skiing, fishing, and riding motorcycles!

Martina Zamponi, ERS Events Director

I am a third-year medical student at Eastern Virginia Medical School with a long-standing interest in research that began during my undergraduate years. I completed my PhD in Biomedical Engineering at 惇蹋圖, where I studied stem cell physiology and tissue engineering.

Currently, my research focuses on molecular diagnostics, including the use of microRNA as biomarkers of concussion, as well as public health, where I examine sexually transmitted infections and patterns of care utilization in the Hampton Roads region.

Rishab Agarwal, ERS Events Director

Hello everyone! I am originally from Charlotte, NC and very interested in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Please feel free to reach out with any questions about medical school, research, or anything else!

  • Cardiopulmonary and Critical Care House - Theodore Chin
  • Surgical and Procedural House - Jacob Chen
  • Cancer and Immunology House - Diego Gomez
  • Pediatrics and Community Health House - Darel Snead
