Become an advocate for women's health and improve outcomes for patients as a graduate of our Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency.
Mission Statement
The mission of the ±¬ÁÏ¹Ï OB/GYN residency program is to prepare our residents to provide exceptional obstetrical and gynecological care in a broad range of medical settings by training them in the medical arts and sciences in an inclusive, multicultural environment dedicated to the delivery of patient-centered care, while fostering a strong commitment to clinical and community partnerships. We strive to prepare our residents for the challenges that they will face upon graduation whether in a subspecialty fellowship, private practice, or research environment.
Our program reflects the goals of our medical school’s founding principle of being established by the community for our community. Our sponsoring institution and major teaching affiliate, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, is committed to serving the underinsured together with the uninsured population; our residents gain expertise in providing care for this most vulnerable population. Additionally, we offer clinical experiences with our extensive network of community faculty at several community hospitals in the region. This diversity of clinical experiences prepares our residents with the professional skills, surgical skills, as well as clinical acumen to provide the highest level of care in diverse environments in addition to gaining skill in providing care to individuals of varied ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religious background.
Research Day
Research Day will take place on June 11, 2026. More information will become available soon.

Learn more about our GME programs
Our community-based Graduate Medical Education is one of the nation's few training programs in which all residencies are integrated among a number of hospitals and community clinic settings, instead of one fixed setting such as a university hospital. Our residents work at 14 teaching affiliate hospitals, staffing hospitals 24 hours a day, implementing new treatment methods and conducting research. They see patients from diverse backgrounds and work with community faculty.
