Recitals
All private students are encouraged to participate in our student recitals. Student recitals are held in Chandler Recital Hall. Pianists will enjoy playing our new nine-foot Steinway Concert grand.
- We learn by listening to others.
- Attendees should plan to stay for the entire event. While recitals are performances, they are also learning opportunities. Performers are expected to stay to support their fellow students.
- Practice daily, as consistent practice builds confidence.
- Students should feel prepared to perform their best. Practicing is part of this learning process and compliments the performance experience. Recitals are always well attended.
- Photocopies are not allowed.
- Photocopies are illegal under copyright law and are not permissible. We encourage soloists to perform from memory. Any sheet music used must be an officially licensed copy.
- Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the event.
- Students will sit together in the front rows in the order in which they perform.
- Recital participation is encouraged.
- While participation is optional, recitals offer a unique learning experience that cannot be simulated by regular lessons and self-study. Recitals also provide a goal to work towards. Recitals can be a great opportunity to boost confidence and motivation for future musicianship.
- Only one piece or movement per student.
- To manage the allotted time appropriately and fairly, students are limited to one piece or movement per recital.
- Confirm participation and recital piece as soon as possible.
- Any changes to the program must be made prior to the one-week mark. Communicate with your instructor to ensure that your information is correctly submitted before printing.
Proper Attire
Formal or Semi-Formal attire is standard for music performances such as recitals and auditions. Below are some examples. (Pianists: Don’t forget to trim long fingernails! A flat, closed shoe is best when pedaling.)
- Dresses or skirts must be appropriate in length. Skirts should be below the knee with a modest blouse.
- Long dress pants, shirt, loafers/dress shoes and tie. Blazers (Dress coats) or suits are optional.
- No sneakers, shorts, or athletic wear, please!
Appropriate Recital Conduct
- Smile and bow before and after you perform.
- No eating/drinking/chewing gum in the hall.
- Please remain seated and refrain from talking during performances.
